Scottish Haggis understand our traditional Scottish dish

Haggis is the traditional Scottish meal but not the most popular in fact many Scots turn their nose at idea of eating it.

It is said and I believe it that most people would not have even heard of the Haggis if it had not been for our national poet Robert Burns. He referred to it as the Chieftain of the Pudding Race in his poem “Address To The Haggis. Today over 210 years after the death of Robert Burns that poem is still said throughout the world especially on 25th January when we hold our Burns Night celebrations.

You will be able to find the full version of “Address to the Haggis” on our ScottishJerk.com website. The same section of the website includes a template menu for those looking to organise their own Burns Night supper. The template also has the Scottish Grace or Selkirk Grace along with the order of toasts and responses that should be included.

On less formal occasions such as almost every night of the week all year round most Scots COULD buy what is referred to as a haggis supper. This is simply deep fried haggis with chips (outside of Scotland “chips” may be called French fries) and sold mainly as a take-away meal along with Haggis burgers. However this does not tell us what is the secret recipe that makes Haggis so special.

Ask a Scot and they will tell you a Haggis is a small animal with its two left legs shorter than the right legs. Females have the short leg on the right so you tell them apart easier! Darwin explained this under the survival of the fittest theory by pointing out that this difference in leg length allowed them to run in circles around steep Scottish highland hills. Some travel agents will still try to sell tourists tickets for haggis hunting tours and then take them to the local butchers shop.

In reality the haggis is made up of the cheapest cuts of meat available usually a sheep making it popular for poorer families in ancient times (although venison haggis is eaten in some areas). By tradition the ingredients are mixed from several different meats including the heart, liver and lungs (the latter is often called lights) together with some mutton, onion, suet fat and arrange of spices and herbs to local taste and custom. After mixing it will be placed inside a sheep’s stomach as a lining before being boiled and served usually with neeps (turnip) and boiled potato.

Today you will also find the sheep’s stomach has been replaced with an artificial cellulose casing and several vegetarian versions of the haggis are being made available in supermarkets.

In many countries it will not be possible to get a truly traditional haggis e.g. the USA where the lung of animals has been ruled to be unfit for human consumption. We have covered the haggis in more detail including its role in Burns Night celebrations on our Scottish culture website http://ScottishJerk.com

Fight Cardiovascular Disease With A Bioflavonoid Complex

Citrus Bioflavonoids are Powerful Antioxidants to Support the Immune System. Bioflavonoids encompass a large group of nutrients with antioxidant activity. Citrus bioflavonoids are part of that group and are derived from the rind and pulp of citrus products. Because they have vitamin like properties they are sometimes referred to as Vitamin P. Works Synergistically with Vitamin C Citrus bioflavonoids work synergistically with Vitamin C. They each enhance the action of the other. Citrus bioflavonoids are needed for Vitamin C to be used effectively by the body. They also lengthen the effectiveness of Vitamin C by slowing down its breakdown. Citrus bioflavonoids help relieve allergies, fight viruses and the common cold, and support the reduction of inflammation.

Antioxidants work to scavenge free radicals. These damaging molecules can lead to cellular death resulting in aging and the development of degenerative diseases. Free radicals are by products of natural processes like breathing as well as exposure to pollutants, cigarette smoke and even sunlight. Citrus Bioflavonoids Complex includes the important flavonoids Rutin and Hesperidin. Together they work to strengthen the circulatory system. Rutin strengthens the capillary system and may help relieve pain from bumps and bruises. Hesperidin helps fight allergic reactions by blocking the release of histamine. It may also help reduce swelling in the legs.

Bioflavonoids Can Help are found in plant pigments that are responsible for the colors of many flowers and fruits. Citrus bioflavonoids are those bioflavonoids, or flavonoids, found in citrus fruits such as lemon, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, etc. These substances possess antioxidant activities, which help fight poor health and aging. Citrus bioflavonoids have been investigated for their biological activity, with both anti-inflammatory and -carcinogenic effects being reported. Flavonoids are a subset of a larger group of beneficial plant substances known as Polyphenols.

Bioflavonoids are not actually vitamins, although they are sometimes referred to as vitamin P. They are complex compounds closely associated with vitamin C and found in the wide range of plants. They aid the absorption of vitamin C and prolong its function. No dosage of bioflavonoids has been determined but 500 mg per day is indicated for supplementation. Vitamin P is best taken with vitamin C.

Bioflavonoids Can Help together with Vitamin C, maintain the health of the thin walls of the small blood vessels known as capillaries, preventing bruising and bleeding, including excessive menstrual loss. Together, they are also anti-viral and anti-inflammatory, and inhibit histamine release. They also act as antioxidants and aid the body in iron absorption.

Bioflavonoids help maximize the benefits of vitamin C by inhibiting its breakdown in the body. In 1935, Albert Szent-Gyorgyi demonstrated that an extract he called citrin, made from lemon peels, was more effective than pure vitamin C in preventing scurvy. In 1936, Szent-Gyorgyi found that citrin was a mixture of bioflavonoids, including the flavone hesperidin and a flavonol glucoside. Szent-Gyorgyi believed that bioflavonoids should be considered vitamins, but was not able to substantiate that they were essential nutrients. Still, many researchers and physicians believe that dietary intake of bioflavonoids is beneficial for blood vessel health and possibly for protection against heart disease.

Bioflavonoids Can Help are available in a vitamin C complex as well as a supplement all to itself. Look for this wonderful substance at your local or internet health food store. Always purchase name brands to ensure quality and purity of the product you buy.

Why You Need One Way Links and Should You Buy Them

I often see the question asked in forums, “Is it ok to buy one way links?” With search engine ranking being so competitive the temptation to buy one way links is great. But, to improve your page rank you need many incoming links and therefore it is usually uneconomical.

One way links are the best way to increase a sites link popularity. One way links are links to your site from sites which do not receive a link back from your site.

What about reciprocal links? Matt Cutts of Google made it plain in his blog that Google frowns upon sites which “overdo” reciprocal links and as I’ve already said you need many incomming links to improve your page rank.

Reciprocal linking alone would not get you ranked well on the search engines because sometime back everyone figured out the value of reciprocal linking and so many professional SEO companies abused the practice by setting up large reciprocal linking programmes thereby diluting their importance.

Search engines such as Google place a lot of importance on one way incomming links when ranking your site. Along with inbound links, relevant anchor text, the actual text in the clickable part of the link, is also very important in the linking process.

Articles are one way, in your SEO link building strategies, of building one way links without buying them. When you write the article you include an About the Author section in which you can post a link back to your blog. You then submit your article to a few different article websites such as Ezine Articles and GoArticles.

These article sites in turn allow other website owners to download your article and post it as content onto their website. One of the rules is that anyone that posts your article must include the About the Author (resource box) section which has your link in it. I have personally found many blogs using my articles without the resource box and therefore no link to my site.

Article submission is still very usefull for one way links, but it’s difficult, it’s slow, and let’s face it, it’s boring!

Find out how you can literally get an Endless Supply of Quality One-Way Links that Will Rank Your Sites in Google.

Considerations for Buying Carpet

When choosing carpet for your living room, Atlas Floors San Antonio suggest questions such as: What will you use this room for most? How much foot traffic will the carpet endure?

If you are carpeting a living room, not a family room or den, it is likely that you will reserve this room for more formal occasions, and the foot traffic probably will not be as heavy as in some other rooms of your home.

If that is the case, you can focus your attention primarily on choosing the carpet you want for this room based on color, style and quality. Sound like fun? It can be if you know what to look for when you begin shopping.

Consider Color, Light and Space When Choosing your Living Room Carpet

Choosing color and style for your new carpet is a personal choice, and there are many options for you to consider. A lot depends on where you are beginning with your room. It is true that color, light and space all have a specific influence on your rooms ambiance.

Coordinating Your Decor and Your Carpet

Assessing your personal circumstances will make the choice easier. Are you starting from scratch with your carpet and furnishings, or do you have furnishings and draperies you want to coordinate with your new carpet?

If you are building a new home, you might decide to shop for your furniture before choosing your carpet. Then, you can have a better idea of which carpet will complement your decor best. If you are remodeling your room, you may have furnishings and draperies you will continue to use with the new carpet.

Either way, an important thing to remember is that you can highlight your carpet, or you can highlight your decor and allow the carpet to become an elegant backdrop.

The Effects of Lighting

Light has an enormous effect on the way your carpet looks in your home. So even if you choose a great color at the store, it may look vastly different in your home.

Always remember that the lighting in the carpet showroom is very different from the lighting in your home. The best solution is to obtain samples to take home with you, if at all possible.

Having samples at home will give you the opportunity to look at the carpet during different times of the day and in different types of light natural sunlight, under lamps, and under overhead lighting.

Choosing Your Color

How big is your living room? What kind of atmosphere do you want to create? These are important questions to ask yourself as you choose the color of your carpet.

Lighter colors tend to make rooms feel larger

Darker colors make rooms appear smaller

Light colors reflect light

Dark colors absorb light

Warm colors reds, yellows, orange tones tend to stimulate

Cool colors greens and blues convey a more calm feeling

This does not mean you are limited in any way with your color choice; it is just a consideration. You may prefer a cozy feeling for your room, or you may prefer that your room appears large and open.

It is all a matter of choice, and it is up to you to choose exactly what you want. You get to decide on the ambiance you want to create and then go for it!

Quality and Your Budget

Most everyone would love to buy the highest quality carpet for their homes, but if you are on a budget, there are some things you should consider.

When you are choosing carpet for your living room, the traffic should be lighter than in your den or family room, so you don not have to purchase the most expensive carpet you can find. You can balance your budget and choose the higher grades for the areas in your home that will take the heaviest use.

Atlas Flooring San Antonio Recommends You Pay Attention to Carpet Performance Ratings

All residential carpet is rated to help you choose the carpet that best suits your needs. These ratings result from thorough carpet performance testing. So check the labels as you shop.

Here is how it works:

The scale goes from 1 to 5, with 5 being the carpet that maintains its new appearance best after rigorous industry standard testing. Naturally, a carpet with this kind of rating would be a perfect choice for high traffic areas in your home.

A rating of 4.0 or above is outstanding. This carpet is also great for high traffic areas.

Ratings of 2.5 to 4.0 are expected to offer normal durability and can be used practically anywhere in your home. With proper maintenance and care, this carpet should perform well for you.

Carpets with ratings of 2.5 and below should only be considered for use in rooms of your home with very light to moderate traffic to get the best results.

You should use the ratings guide not as a steadfast guarantee, but as a general guide for helping you choose which carpet might be best suitable for your specific rooms. Every family has its own particular lifestyle and practices, but these ratings can help you with your initial purchase.

Other carpet characteristics to consider when choosing the carpet that will work best for you:

Density performance and comfort improve with higher density

Face weight the more ounces in each square yard, the better

Twist higher twist counts aid in resistance to matting and crushing

If you remember these important points, you can feel more confident in making your choice. The main thing to remember is that it is your living room, and you can decorate in the color and style you will enjoy most. Atlas Floors Suggest you choose the highest quality carpet you can afford, put proper maintenance in place, and you should enjoy your new carpet for years to come.

Questech Sandgate and Dorset Collection

Leading backsplash tile supplier My Tile Backsplash is pleased to announce the addition of both the Sandgate and Dorset Collection from Questech to there vast selection of backsplash material.

The Sandgate and Dorset Collection offers an array of decorative accents in both a natural stone and a metal look. Each Series has three different categories within each of the Sandgate and Dorset lines.

Questech Metals - Questech invented a breakthrough technology, a process for casting beautiful metal objects at a fraction of the weight and cost of solid metals. This discovery led to the launch of the industry’s first mass produced metal tiles, creating an important new category in the tile and home improvement markets. The difference between the two series of Sandgate and Dorset Collections is the style offerings between them. The colors that are offered are the same, just different designs between the two series.

Questech Cast Stone - Questech broke the mold again, with their revolutionary product of the cast stone series. These decorative pieces have a resemblance of natural stone with the look of travertine and marble. The product offering in this category is phenomenal. The selection includes everything from a 2″ x 2″ to a large 16″ x 24″ mural. Again, the color offering between the Sandgate and the Dorset collection are the same, just the different designs associated with each series.

Questech Natural Stone - This includes a factory-sealed tumbled marble collection offered in both Castle Wheat and Casa Emperador. Tumbled marble tiles have better wear properties, warmer feels, softer appearance and a matte finish. Tumbled Marble with Q-Seal provides a built-in anti-bacterial protection. Ultra-Fresh inhibits the growth of stain and odor causing mold and mildew. It is factory applied and will not lose its effectiveness over time. The added anti-bacterial protection makes the tiles ideal for showers, tub surrounds and kitchen backsplashes. They will never be the worry of having to reseal the tiles or worry about special stone cleaners.

As with all the products from Questech, each and every one of the products is sealed with their Q-Seal. The fear of sealing or water-damaged products does not exist with the Questech product line.

Greater choice of airports in the North of England

For many years people going abroad from the north of England and the midlands have consistently used Manchester airport if they were travelling abroad due to the lack of alternative airports and a wider choice of destinations. Whilst Manchester airport still is the main airport there is no doubt that the other airports are catching up fast.

Whilst Manchester airport is growing its overall share of the Northern market has shrunk with East Midlands airport in particular growing at a faster pace. There is little doubt that holidaymakers would rather to use their local airport and as a regular traveller from all these airports my first choice would always be East Midlands followed by Birmingham then Manchester with Leeds a distant fourth due to its poor location.

However if you are flying from Manchester airport and due to timings you may want to consider using hotels near Manchester airport an alternative which is more pricey. But I must admit I do enjoy it, although I have found that East Midlands airport parking and parking at Birmingham airport to be generally cheaper than parking at Manchester airport. On top of cheaper airport parking, less travelling costs. Overall it just seems a lot less stressful experience.

There are really only 2 things why I would favour Manchester airport over either East Midlands or Birmingham airport. The first being the time of the return flight I don’t like getting back to the terminal at 2am then having to drive home. The second reason is if the price of the flight was much cheaper.
