Dealing With Anxiety and Depression after Cancer Treatment

After being treated for cancer you may still feel angry, sad and alone. These feelings are not unique and are very common for patients treated for cancer. Depression after cancer is a condition that can and should be treated.

To find out if you need help for anxiety and depression after cancer, see if you recognize two or more of these symptoms and if they persist for more than two weeks:

  • Feelings of sadness, worry or anxiety that remain.
  • Feeling numb emotionally
  • Feeling out of control or confused
  • Feeling guilty or unworthy
  • Feeling like all hope is out
  • Felling worthless
  • Feeling hot tempered or moody
  • Having difficulty concentrating
  • Having certain thoughts come back and having difficulty letting go of them
  • Not feeling enjoyment from the things you used too
  • Thinking about killing or hurting yourself

If you recognize symptoms like this in yourself, then it is a good idea to see a doctor. Unfortunately many people cannot look at themselves like this in an objective way. Your doctor will be able to treat your depression after cancer by therapy, support groups, anti-depressants or natural remedies. Feeling depressed, angry and sad is normal and you should take advantage of the offers available to get help.

Of course if you are ever unsure about your health – whether your concerns are about cancer, depression, or anything else – you should always, always ask a doctor or other health professional for good, dependable advice. Your health is the most important thing: no point risking it, is there?
