AEDs for Newbies

An AED is a little, easily transportable device that analyzes the heart’s rhythm for any abnormalities and, if prudent , directs the trained help to deliver an electrical shock to the heart of an SCA victim .  This jolt, entitled defibrillation, might enable the heart to regain an effective beat.

An Automated External Defibrillator uses   voice prompts to instruct   the trained help. Once the device is turned on , the rescuer will be prompted to place the 2 pads that come with the AED to the SCA vistim’s chest. Once applied , the Automated External Defibrillator will start to monitor the SCA victim’s heart rhythm.  If a “shockable” rhythm is detected , the machine will charge itself and advise the trained help to steer clear of the SCA victim and to press the shock button.

An Automated External Defibrillatoris programmed to teach rescuers precisely what to do , using   voice and visual prompts . Rescuers put  adhesive electrode pads on the victim’s chest. Through these electrodes, the Automated External Defibrillator is programmed to automatically analyze the electrical activity of the heart to conclude if a “shockable” rhythm exists.

Whether you expeience an Sudden Cardiac Arrest in your place of work   or in the Emergency Room of a hospital, defibrillation is THE treatment .
