Network Visibility Increases Application Performance with Shunra Software
Shunra Software, the world’s leading provider of WAN emulation for application development testing and troubleshooting, today announced version 4.6 of VE Network Catcher, a network behavior recording tool which brings the real-world network environment into the performance lab. The easiest to use solution on the market that quickly provides accurate, live network behavior now includes Advanced Remote Recording. This easy to configure and deploy capability enables users to record network behavior from any remote endpoint back to the data center or any other location, and automatically communicate the behavior recording back to the Network Catcher Server. This new web browser-based feature also supports recording of network behavior from endpoints behind Firewalls/Network Address Translation (NAT) devices, Wireless Access Points (WAP) and mobile 2G/3G networks.
Shunra’s VE Network Catcher is a highly flexible agent-less network monitor solution that enables fast record, import and replay of production network conditions such as latency, packet loss and route changes. Statistics are imported and analyzed in Shunra VE Suite or VE Desktop applications, enabling application performance testing under the most accurate and true-to-life conditions possible.
This lightweight approach allows recordings of WAN acceleration link performance from endpoints located off-net at business partner locations. There is no other solution today that delivers the capability to do agent-less remote recording solely through the use of a web browser – no remote agents, nor hardware probes required.
“This new version of Network Catcher will likely become an instrumental tool in application performance efforts as test and network professionals become increasingly concerned with efficiencies and accountability,” said Bojan Simic, Aberdeen Research Analyst. “Today’s performance pressures make accurate visibility into real world network behavior even more essential to application teams as networks become more complex, and applications more demanding. I’m looking forward to seeing more from this solution in 2009.” There are also many application accleration solutions on the IT horizon for 2009.
About eighty percent of Internet traffic is TCP-based, and VE Network Catcher supports this probing protocol. VE Network Catcher can measure network behavior by selecting among a group of probing protocols; in addition to Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) probing, options for HTTP and TCP probing captures behavior of those protocols more accurately across the WAN.
“I consider our approach to gathering production network behavior for purposes of understanding and improving application performance over the WAN to be a new milestone,” said Matt Reid, VP of Worldwide Marketing, Shunra Software. “Our customers requested that we expand our network monitoring solution to make it easier to configure, simpler to deploy, even more accurate, and extremely scalable. We have addressed all of these requirements and are proud to deliver a robust testing suite that ultimately resolves performance issues throughout each stage of the application development lifecycle.”
VE Network Catcher 4.6 allows performance testers, capacity planners, and network engineers to:
* Record, store, analyze and playback link conditions for up to 100 locations
* Actively monitor the behavior of multiple WAN links 24 x 7
* Set up and receive alerts when pre-defined thresholds are exceeded
* Store up to 30 days of network behavior for easy analysis and troubleshooting
* Enable recorded network statistics, at set intervals, to playback from one central repository
* Seamlessly import production network conditions into a Shunra WAN emulation application
* Avoid production network security issues by keeping your data secure – only the network behavior is recorded, not the data
